Whipped Bakeshop is the brainchild of Philadelphia artist Zoë Lukas. Zoë's love of baking was born as a child among her food-loving family. Her father traveled frequently and used his special bakery-radar powers to seek out deliciousness across the country (he has an encyclopedic memory of food establishments, and recently was able to name at least 35 bakeries from memory in Baltimore city alone). All family gatherings revolve around food, talking about what was eaten, what is being eaten, and what will be whipped up next. Zoë has a degree in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, and her paintings have appeared in numerous shows. Zoë's love of art and baking combined when she moved to Philadelphia in 2003 and worked for three of the top bakeries in the city, all the while continuing to create her own treats for friends and family. In October 2009, the doors of Whipped Bakeshop opened. Zoë vows never to work in a cubicle again!
Brennen is Whipped Bakeshop's co-founder and general big idea nerd. He likes cool things before they are cool, but he himself is not cool. Every day he dreams up several can't-miss marketing schemes that are soundly rejected by the rest of the staff. He remains optimistic and undeterred because he gets to eat more cupcakes and brownies than you can possibly imagine. Meanwhile, you can't run a bakery without proper bookkeeping. As a fancy lad with a masters degree in creative writing, Brennen is terrible at bookkeeping, but that's his job anyway. He's better at writing poetry and shooting video game zombies. Also, he washes dishes.
Ann Wilson first learned to bake at the apron strings of her mother, Norma, who is best known for having raised 10 -- count ‘em, 10 -- children, Ann being the youngest. After earning a degree in English and Piano and working in a variety of jobs in the fields of art administration, grantmaking, and social services, she found herself at Petit 4 Pastry Studio in Old City, Philadelphia, where she learned all she knows (well, everything Norma didn’t teach her) under the tutelage of the legendary Joe Moorhead. She is thrilled to be baking once again and finds few things more satisfying that a bakery rack full of fresh cupcakes and cakes ready to be ravished by the hungry masses. You should totally follow her on Instagram.
When Jess applied to work at Whipped Bakeshop, she said she'd arm-wrestle anyone to get the job. She didn't have a ton of decorating experience, but she did have plenty of strength, heart and determination. There's no chance any of us could have beaten her at arm-wrestling. Needless to say, the job was hers. As you can see from her cheeky Instagram feed, she is now one of the best cake decorators in Philadelphia. She puts incredible focus and effort into every detail, and you'd be lucky to have Jess craft your dessert.
Cartoonist Daryl Seitchik does a little bit of everything at Whipped Bakeshop, from answering the phone to decorating the pretty cupcakes you see in our case every day. It was Daryl who helped originate the idea of cupcake "butterfaces", and she created the staff cupcake portraits that you see on this page. Daryl is a bright, warm and talented person, and she is a beloved member of our team. You can enjoy Daryl's cartoons on her amazing Tumblr.

Web developer Ann Torockio has been an undeniable part of Whipped Bakeshop's success, almost from the very beginning. Ann is tasked with helping to make it easy and fun to order goodies from our bakery. A positive and persistent person, Ann's motto is that we can always be doing things a little bit better. Besides her technical skills, Ann is a competitive dragon boater with Philadelphia Flying Pheonix dragon boating team and a member of the US Dragon Boating Team competing in the First World Cup of Dragon Boating. Ask her about correct deadlifting form. She'll have a lot to say.
