We're a custom bakery located in Philadelphia, specializing in custom cakes, cookies and cupcakes. The bakery was founded in 2008 by Zoë and Brennen Lukas, and our retail store opened in October 2009. We won Philadelphia Magazine's Best of Philly Award our first year open (for cupcakes), and The Daily Meal named our chocolate truffle cupcakes one of America's 101 Best Cupcakes (they were #17). In 2014, Martha Stewart Weddings magazine named us one of America's Top Pastry Pros. We're extremely proud to have earned such high praise!

Yes we do! We have done work for Martha Stewart, Four Seasons Hotels, Saks Fifth Avenue, CBS Radio, The University of Pennsylvania, and many others. We are able to create logo cookies and cupcakes, which are very popular gifts for clients and special events. If you give us enough notice, we can create something really amazing. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.
We typically ask for at least two week's notice for custom cake orders. For large orders and more complex designs, a month or more notice is ideal. If you need goodies sooner, please check out the "Order Sweets" area of our site as many of these items can be made with a quicker turnaround time.
For one thing, the building is LEED-certified Gold, complete with a green roof and solar panels that provide much of the electricity for the bakery. The interior was designed by Bahdeebahdu, and we have a custom light sculpture by Warren Muller. We also think our open kitchen style is fairly unique. In theory, you could see your own cake being decorated. How's that for accountability?
Our retail store hours are Monday from 10-4 and Tuesday through Saturday from 10-6 pm. We are closed on Sundays.
We're located north of Center City at 636 Belgrade Street, Philadelphia, PA 19125. It's in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, at the corner of Berks and Belgrade Streets. You can check out a Google map before you head over. Free street parking is readily available.
We sell an assortment of fresh-baked cupcakes, our signature "Sasquatch" brownies, French macarons, fresh baked cookies, Whippie Pies and CakeCups. We try to change the cupcake flavors often so there is always something new to try. We also bake traditional Philadelphia Butter Cakes each Friday and Saturday. It's also an open kitchen so you can see us baking and decorating, if you're into that sort of thing.
Zoë is a fine artist with a degree in painting from the Maryland Institute of College of Art. She has also been a baking enthusiast for most of her life. In 2003 she accepted an unpaid apprenticeship at Petit 4 Pastry Studio in Philadelphia. She was eventually hired and has worked at several other bakeries since then. She finds it much more fun to own her own bakery. It's a dream come true.
Zoë's husband Brennen was talking about the bakery idea with his good buddies John Freeborn and Jason Smith. They were narrowing down names when John said "Whipped Bakery" and Brennen replied with "Whipped Bakeshop." The name just clicked. Also, the URL was available. Finally, it is worth mentioning that Brennen is quite whipped by Zoe's desserts.
Zoe started posting pictures of her desserts on the picture sharing site Flickr and got a huge response. Before she knew it, orders were coming in and Whipped Bakeshop was born. Soon after that, the bakery was featured in Daily Candy and numerous other publications. It has been a wild ride ever since.
