Frequently Asked Questions

How Does Online Ordering Work?

All of the cakes and cupcakes under our Shop Online section can be ordered right through our secure website. When you place your order, you'll be able to choose free bakery pick-up or local delivery for a fee based on the zip code. You'll also be able to choose the date you'd like to get your desserts. Keep in mind that even if you order far in advance, we prepare your desserts to order so they are made fresh for pick-up or delivery. We require three days notice for online orders, so if you need something sooner, please give us a call at 215-598-5449 and we will try to accommodate you. Delivery is available Tuesday through Saturday, and pick-up is available Monday through Saturday. We are closed on Sundays.

Do you offer internships?

We occasionally offer unpaid internships for budding bakers and decorators. You can email us at info@whippedbakeshop.com if you'd like us to take a look at your resume and some pictures of your work.

How do I contact you?

You can reach us with our contact form, or by calling 215-598-5449. If you have a specific question for our designers, you can email us at info@whippedbakeshop.com. Talk to you soon!

Do you accept corporate orders?

Yes we do! We have done work for Martha Stewart, Four Seasons Hotels, Saks Fifth Avenue, CBS Radio, The University of Pennsylvania, and many others. We are able to create logo cookies and cupcakes, which are very popular gifts for clients and special events. If you give us enough notice, we can create something really amazing. Please contact us to discuss your specific needs.

How much notice do you need for custom orders?

We typically ask for at least a week's notice for custom cake orders. For large orders and more complex designs, more notice is appreciated. If you need goodies sooner, please check out the "Shop Online" area of our site. Items that can be ordered online have a 3-day lead time, but you can always order further in advance and your order will be made fresh when you need it. If you need something quicker than that, please call us directly and we will do our best to help you out!

What's cool about the store itself?

For one thing, the building is LEED-certified Gold, complete with a green roof and solar panels that provide much of the electricity for the bakery. The interior was designed by Bahdeebahdu, and we have a custom light sculpture by Warren Muller. We also think our open kitchen style is fairly unique. In theory, you could see your own cake being decorated. How's that for accountability?

What are your hours?

Our retail store hours are Monday from 10-4 and Tuesday through Saturday from 10-6 pm. We are closed on Sundays.

Where is the store located?

We're located north of Center City at 636 Belgrade Street, Philadelphia, PA 19125. It's in the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia, at the corner of Berks and Belgrade Streets. You can check out a Google map before you head over. Free street parking is readily available.

What can I buy at your retail store?

We sell an assortment of fresh-baked cupcakes, our signature "Sasquatch" brownies, French macarons, fresh baked cookies, Whippie Pies and CakeCups. We try to change the cupcake flavors often so there is always something new to try. We also bake traditional Philadelphia Butter Cakes each Friday and Saturday. It's also an open kitchen so you can see us baking and decorating, if you're into that sort of thing.

How did Zoe learn to bake?

Zoë is a fine artist with a degree in painting from the Maryland Institute of College of Art. She has also been a baking enthusiast for most of her life. In 2003 she accepted an unpaid apprenticeship at Petit 4 Pastry Studio in Philadelphia. She was eventually hired and has worked at several other bakeries since then. She finds it much more fun to own her own bakery. It's a dream come true.

Where did you come up with the name Whipped Bakeshop?

Zoë's husband Brennen was talking about the bakery idea with his good buddies John Freeborn and Jason Smith. They were narrowing down names when John said "Whipped Bakery" and Brennen replied with "Whipped Bakeshop." The name just clicked. Also, the URL was available. Finally, it is worth mentioning that Brennen is quite whipped by Zoe's desserts.

How did the bakery get started?

Zoe started posting pictures of her desserts on the picture sharing site Flickr and got a huge response. Before she knew it, orders were coming in and Whipped Bakeshop was born. Soon after that, the bakery was featured in Daily Candy and numerous other publications. It has been a wild ride ever since.

What is Whipped Bakeshop?

Whipped Bakeshop is a custom bakery located in Fishtown, Philadelphia, specializing in beautiful and delicious cakes, cookies and cupcakes. The bakery was founded in 2008 by Zoë and Brennen Lukas, and our retail store opened in October 2009. We won Philadelphia Magazine's Best of Philly Award our first year open (for cupcakes), and The Daily Meal later named our chocolate truffle cupcakes one of America's 101 Best Cupcakes (they were #17). In 2014, Martha Stewart Weddings magazine named us one of America's Top Pastry Pros. We're extremely proud to have earned such high praise!
