A reporter over at Al Día recently reached out to us to learn our story and see how Whipped Bakeshop is faring during the Covid-19 pandemic. We told her that business survival has involved a lot of pivoting, but our small team is remaining strong thanks to the support our loyal customers. You can read the whole article here. Thanks to Tiffany Rivera for the lovely piece!
New Wedding Selfie Mural at Philadelphia Marriage License Bureau
There’s some good news for couples picking up their marriage license at Philadelphia City Hall. The Marriage License Bureau has a cool new selfie wedding mural. That means you can get some sweet photos to commemorate the occasion.
The mural was completed by Mural Arts Philadelphia artist Nathanial Lee. We love the montage of Philly landmarks!

Lunar New Year Cookies for Bulgari
We recently created some unique custom cookies for Bulgari, an Italian luxury brand. Taylor Moore, Bulgari’s Senior Manager of Events & Promotions said this about the cookie project:
“I discovered Whipped Bakeshop through social media and was impressed by your creativity and delicate attention to detail within all of your delicious looking creations! We wanted to provide a sweet takeaway for clients within many of our local boutiques during the Lunar New Year holiday – and Mandarin Oranges, as a sign of good luck and good will for the new year, felt like the perfect cookie fit!”
Our team had to work around a snowstorm. Despite the weather, we were able to ship the cookies across the country to the various Bulgari boutiques. We have dealt with some tough shipping delays this year, so we were grateful when all of the cookie packages arrived safely.
Taylor reported that the “oranges” were a big hit.
It’s fun to create custom cookies for brands! We can make logo cookies or more stylized options as we did with the oranges.
If you’d like to order custom cookie gifts for your brand, please fill out our contact form.
Micro Wedding Cakes Now Available
Micro weddings with small guest counts are a major trend in 2021 as we all do our part to slow the spread of Covid-19. But going small doesn’t mean you have to give up on having an amazing wedding cake. Many of our online order cakes are now available as micro wedding cakes serving 10-30 guests. You can select one or two tiers for your cake, and choose fancy design and flavor options like metallic gold leaf or dripped ganache.
You can browse our micro wedding cake designs here.
Benefits of Micro Cakes
We adore making micro cakes because they look so compact and perfect. With the right cake stand and accessories, you can create an amazing look for your photos. We look forward to making big wedding cakes again once it’s safe, but in the meantime, relatively tiny cakes are the way to go.
Pick-up and local Philadelphia delivery options are available for weddings. Many couples are opting to pick up their micro wedding cakes themselves. It saves some money and smaller cakes are very easy to transport. Remember, the sooner you place your order, the better! We do book up for popular dates.
Setting Up a Cake Tasting
If you’d like to discuss a customized wedding cake (of any size) or if you want to taste our flavors, please start by filling out our Wedding Survey. After that, we will set up a consultation with one of our artists. We are currently conducting our cake tastings via Zoom. So, you’ll choose your desired flavors and pick up your cake samples ahead of time. This lets you and your partner taste the flavors during our call.
During our Zoom call, we will walk you through every step of the process and create the wedding cake of your dreams, even if it is smaller than you might have once imagined. To get started, just fill out our Wedding Survey above!

An Exciting New Era for Whipped Bakeshop!
After 10 years in business, we are excited to unbox a sweet new direction and fresh look for Whipped Bakeshop. For ten years, we’ve had a tiny little retail store in the heart of Fishtown. We’ve welcomed thousands of visitors to try our cupcakes, brownies and CakeCups. The little store has been fun (so many memories), but it’s time for a change.
Now, we’re excited to welcome you into Whipped Bakeshop in a totally different way. Beginning the week of Monday, November 18th, we’ll be closing our retail store to open up a world of new possibilities. Coming soon, we are pleased to announce that we’ll be hosting a brand new series of group tasting events and classes!
We have been hard at work behind the scenes developing our new tasting experience and we think you are going to love it. We’ll be unveiling brand new flavors and combinations and you will get to try them all!
We’ll also be launching an amazing line-up of cake and cookie decorating workshops for all levels, as well as free online resources and tutorials for bakers and decorators around the world. We will share everything we know with the amazing baking community, from beginners to pros.
Of course, we’ll still sell our famous custom cakes, cookies and cupcakes, just as we always have, but everything will be pre-order. This will enable us to reduce waste (we hate throwing away unsold food) and give us more freedom and physical space to develop amazing new designs and experiences for our fans.
Don’t worry, you’ll still be able to grab a box of cupcakes. Just call ahead and we’ll make them fresh just for you. Seasonal favorites like Thanksgiving butter cakes and Christmas crackle (and much more) will also be available for pre-order.
Thank you so much for supporting our small business! We can’t do anything without you. We look forward to becoming an even better version of the bakeshop you already love. ❤️
When Should I Order My Wedding Cake in Philadelphia?
Couples getting married in Philadelphia often want to know how far in advance they should order their wedding cake. There’s no hard and fast rule, but we can give you some pointers. Sought-after Philadelphia bakeries like Whipped Bakeshop generally start to book up for popular wedding dates (Weekends in September, October, May & June) about 3-6 months in advance. This is because Philly wedding bakeries tend to be pretty small and artisan (in the best possible way) so we have to limit the number of wedding cakes we can produce for a given date. This is good, because it means you and your cake will get a lot of attention, but it also means that you’ll want to get your order in before it’s too late.
With all of that said, we recommend getting the wedding cake process started 6-9 months before your wedding date, and that means scheduling your Ultra-Magical Cake Tasting. If you’re anxious to get your cake ordered, you can do it sooner, but we recommend having your planner, venue and florist selected before you book your cake, especially if you’re considering fresh flowers. This helps us get everything coordinated for your special day!
How to Get a Marriage License in Philadelphia, PA
So you’ve decided to get married. Woohoo! Marriage is awesome! But hold your horses…. pardners. In order to make this thing official, you’re going to need the official go ahead from the City of Philadelphia. That means heading down Broad Street to City Hall and getting your marriage license.
Don’t get overwhelmed. Whipped Bakeshop has your back! Here’s everything you need to know to get your marriage license in Philadelphia.
*** 2021 COVID-19 UPDATE: You now need to make an appointment to get your marriage license. Here’s a link to the PDF checklist of what you need before making your appointment. Also, there is a brand new selfie mural at the Marriage License Bureau, so check that out!
Where to grab your Philadelphia marriage license
You AND your future spouse (both must attend) must make your way to room 413 City Hall to apply for the license. You’ll enter through the Northeast entrance, take the elevator to the 4th floor and proceed to room 413. Bonus Tip: Parking around City Hall is tough to find and/or very expensive. We recommend grabbing a Lyft instead of driving yourself.
Fun fact: According to Philadelphia Magazine, some 11,000 marriage licenses are produced in room 413 every year! The busiest time of the year is May to September, when an average Wednesday evening means 70 to 90 licenses.
Hours:
The Marriage License Bureau is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am. until 4:00 pm Wednesday hours are from 8:30 am until 7:30 pm.
NOTE: The Marriage License Bureau recommends arriving no later than one-half hour before closing time to give the office time to process your license.
Address:
Marriage License Bureau
Room 415 City Hall
Philadelphia, PA 19107
Phone Number:
(215) 686-2233
When we do we get our PA marriage license?
You want to cross this important item off your wedding planning list… but not TOO soon. Your shiny new marriage license will issue on the third day following application and is valid for only 60 days from the issue date that appears on the license. If the license is not used within the 60 day period, the marriage license must be returned and the application process must be repeated in its entirety and the fee re-paid (nooooooooooooo).
How much does the marriage license cost?
The fee for a marriage license is a cool $90.00, payable by Visa, MasterCard, certified check and money order. Cash and personal checks are NOT accepted, so don’t even try!
Can I use my PA marriage license in NJ or another state?
Nope. The marriage license can be used in any county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. However, a PA license cannot be used out-of-state.
What IDs do we need to bring?
Both you and your partner must bring:
1: A CURRENT, VALID PHOTO ID in the form of either a driver’s license; non-driver’s license; international driver’s license; passport; military ID; resident alien card or consulate card.
AND
2. A Social Security card or any other form of ID issued by an official entity which reflects the applicant’s Social Security number (i.e. Social Security printout; pay stub; W-2 form; income tax return; prescription card; access card etc.).
If you don’t have a Social Security number, you must bring a secondary ID in the form of a birth certificate (officially translated, if appropriate); or any other form of ID issued by an official entity, in addition to the above-noted current, valid photo ID.
Pretty much… don’t bother showing up until you have these documents ready. They won’t process your license without them.
What if one or both of us was previously married?
If either of you was previously married, proof of dissolution of the latest marriage must be submitted at the time of application. If you are widowed, you must submit a certified copy of the death certificate of the deceased spouse. A divorced applicant must provide a certified copy of the most recent divorce decree. If the document is not written in English it must be translated to English and the translation must be certified to be correct.
What if I’ve had a legal name change?
If either of you has had a legal name change, the certified decree of the court ordering this change must be presented.
Anything else to know?
There’s a lost license fee of $10 and a fee of $100 for Quaker/Self-Uniting licenses. If you or your partner cannot speak or understand English, you must be accompanied by a translator who possesses current, valid photo ID.
That’s about it! Now go forth and grab your Philadelphia marriage license… after you sign up for your ULTRA MAGICAL Whipped Bakeshop cake tasting!
